JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- South Korea booked its place in
the second round of the 2010 World Cup with a 2-2 tie with
Nigeria in Durban on Tuesday evening to go past the first
round for the first time ever away from Asia.

한국은  아르헨티나에 이어 B조에서 두번째로 진출해 토요일
포트 엘리자베스에서 우루과이와 8강 진출을 놓고 다툰다

Korea finished second in Group B behind Argentina and take on
Uruguay on Saturday in Port Elizabeth with a place in the
quarterfinal at stake.

시합의 결과는 나이지리이아와의 흥미진진하고 긴장감이 감도는 접전속에 마지막 순간까지 알수  없었고 그 와중 나이지리아는 아프리카 대륙의 팀을 16강
으로 올릴 수 있는 아까운 기회를 여러번 놓치고 말았다

The outcome was in doubt until the final seconds in an
entertaining and tense encounter with Nigeria missing a number o
f great opportunities that could have seen the Africans in the
knockout stage.

아르헨티나가 그리스를 2: 0으로 이기면서, 한국은 승점 3점으로 조 2위로 시작할 수 있었다. 그러나 곧 Kalu Uche가 골을 넣어 한국의 순위는 그보다 내려갔다. 이정수가 중간 휴식 직전에
동점을 만들었고 중간 휴식이 끝나고 얼마 지나지 않아 박주영이 역전골을 넣었다. Yakubu Aiyegbeni가 페널티 킥으로 다시 동점으로 만들면서 아슬아슬하게 경기가 끝났다.

With Argentina defeating Greece 2-0, Korea started the evening
in second on three points but soon found itself behind thanks
to Kalu Uche. Lee Jung-soo equalized just before the break and
 not long after Park Chu-young put Korea ahead. A penalty from
Yakubu Aiyegbeni leveled the scoreline once again to ensure
a very nervous finish.

한국팀이 일어나지 않길 원했던 바로 그 일이 12분 후에 일어나고 말았다.
피할수 있었던 골이 먹혔다.

Just what Korea didn’t want to happen happened after 12 minutes
 as a simple but very avoidable goal was conceded.

하지만 그의 낮은 크로스는 어쩌면 차두리에 의해 막혔을것이다.
대신 독일에서 활동중인 수비수 kalu Uche가 그의 앞에서 (골문에가까운)슛이 지나가는걸 어찌하지 못했다

Chidi Odiah was allowed to run down the right side but his
low cross perhaps should have been cleared by Cha Du-ri.
Instead the German-based defender allowed Kalu Uche to get
in front of him to stab the ball home from close range.

이것은 한국에 크게 작용했다.
(나이지리아의) 자신감은 나이지리아응원단과 강력한
아프리카 팀이 경기를 움켜잡고 움직이기 시작하는것에 갑작스러운 흐름을 야기시켰다

It was a big blow for the Koreans who had started well.
After Nigeria had lost its first two matches in the group,
confidence was suddenly coursing through the veins of the
green-shirted Super Eagles and the more powerful African team
started to get a grip on the game.

그 골을넣은선수는 전반전종료 10분전에 낮고 짧게 움직여서
정성룡 골키퍼에 지역 바깥으로 부터 매우 근접했었다
그러나 그의 왼쪽 포스트 때문에 골을 넣지 못했다..

ten minutes before the break as he drove a low shot firmly
that went past goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryung but not the base
of his left hand post

불과 2분뒤 한국은 어딘가에서 목표레벨을 받았다.
이영표는 아프리카 페널티 지역의 오른쪽 가장자리
에서 파울을 당했고 허정무는 또다른 사람에게 프리킥을 주었다
기성룡의 프리킥은 다소 어색하게 마크되지 않고 있던
이정수에게 깨끗하게 연결되었다
 왜냐하면 그들은 동아시아를  얕잡아보고 있었기 때문이다.

Just two minutes later, Korea drew level with a goal from
nowhere. Lee Young-pyo was fouled just outside the right
edge of the African penalty area to give Huh Jung-moo’s men
 another free-kick. Ki Sung-yung’s free-kick evaded everyone
except for the unmarked Lee Jung-soo at the far post who bundled
 the ball over the line in a somewhat ungainly but, for those
watching in East Asia, delicious fashion.
 

 

양팀이 팽팽하게 맞선 가운데 시합은 하프타임을 맞았으나
후반 시작 3분만에 한국쪽으로 승기가 기울기 시작했다.
또 다른 프리킥은 나이지리아팀에 의해 주어졌고 박주영은
페널티박스 좌측코너에서 나이지리아 골대의 반대편 코너를 향해 볼을 감아차 넣었다.

Half-time came with the contest finely balanced but it swung
heavily in Korea’s favor just three minutes into the second
half. Another free-kick was given away by the men in green and
from the left corner of the penalty box, Park Chu-young curled
a shot into the far corner of the Nigerian goal.

나이지리아는 전진하기 시작했고 팀은 그래야만 했다.
yakubu는 가까운범위의 슛에대하여 이정수에의해 강탈 당했고
박주영은 Vincent 로부터 강제적인 좋은 수비를 했다

Nigeria started to push forward, the team had to. Yakubu
Aiyegbeni was about to shoot from close range only to be
robbed by Lee Jung-soo while Park Chu-young forced a good save
from Vincent Enyeama.

그리고 24분 남았을때 Yakubu 는 2010 월드컵에서의
가장 쉬운 기회를 잃어버렸다
다시 한번 차두리는 yakubu가 그의 곁을 지나가도록 허락했었고
낮은 크로스는 yakubu의 슛이 골문 2미터 밖에서 넓게
한국인의 골문을 직면하여 가로질러 굴러갔다
(완전 위기였네요 ㅎㄷㄷ)

And then with 24 minutes remaining, Yakubu somehow missed
the easiest opportunity of the 2010 World Cup. Once again
Cha Du-ri allowed his man to get past him and a low cross was
rolled across the face of the Korean goal and Yakubu shoot wide
from two meters out.

이것은 나이지리아인이 직후에 희망했던 종말의 신호가 아니였다
최근에 치네두 오바시와 잉글랜드 프리미어 리그의 에버튼 축구클럽에서의
플레이를 한다고 소개된 야쿠부에게 교체선수인 김남일의 어설픈 파울은
결과적으로 2-2 스코어를 만들었다.

It didn’t signal the end of Nigerian hopes as shortly after,
 recently introduced sub substitute Kim Nam-il clumsily fouled
 Chinedu Obasi and Yakubu, who plays his club football for
Everton in the English Premier League, scored the resultant
 penalty to level the scoreline at 2-2.

그들의 신용을 위해 한국인 플레이어들은
이청용과 박지성을 통틀어  다시 공격했다. 그러나
10분 남았을때,나이지리아 교체선수인 obafemi martins가 
페널티 지역에 침입하여 볼을 정성룡 골키퍼에게 올려보냈다.
볼은 포스트에 맞고 튕겨졌다
 

To their credit, the Korean players hit back and went close
 through Lee Chung-yong and Park Ji-sung but with ten minutes
remaining, Nigerian substitute Obafemi Martins went closer,
breaking free in to the penalty area to lift the ball over the
advancing Jung. The ball bounced just wide of the post.


그것은 나이지리아인이 가졌던 가장 근접한 것이였고
곧 이후에 마지막 휘슬소리가 울려져
고요한 아침이 아닌 땅 더반에서 한국인을 축하하게 되었다.

That was as close as the Nigerians got and soon after
the final whistle sounded to spark Korean celebrations
in Durban and back in the Land of the not-so-Morning Calm.
