Shortly after the announcement in November 17th of Vietnam's first Field Engineering Unit to ever participate in peacekeeping missions in Abyei, photos of troops enrolling in vital courses in Mines and IED Threat Awareness and Use of Force in Security and Self-Defence were published.
These courses were given to suitable personnels from Nov 15th to Nov 19th in part of the ongoing pre-deployment training for the peacekeepers in co-operation with experts from the EU, Vietnam National Mine Action Center and the 1st Army Officer Academy.
In September 9th, the UN has invited Vietnam to send a Field Engineering Unit to take part in UNISFA, the peacekeeping mission for the Abyei region on the border of Sudan & South Sudan. The unit consists of 184 soldiers from various branches, varying from commandos, medics to combat engineers to fulfill different roles in the unit.
Side note: During the announcement ceremony, the 4th rotation of the Level 2 Field Hospital in South Sudan was also announced. They will replace the 3rd rotation in 2022.
