ROK Soldiers

We had a unit of Korean soldiers stationed near Qui Nhon. While they were our allies they were in reality mercenaries. The US paid all the expenses of the Koreans, Australians and Thai soldiers so the Vietnam War would not be looked upon as just an American War. Sort of like the coalitions in Iraq and Afghanistan today. The Koreans were fantastic fighters mostly because they didn't have to worry about any rules. When they fought the enemy anything and anyone (men, women, children) who got in the way were wiped out. This scorched earth policy got rid of your enemy quickly and without anyone to complain later.

ROK soldiers are world class soldiers. During the Vietnam war, there were 300.000 ROK soldiers deployed in Vietnam, largest deployment next to U.S. and they fought until the bitter end. How dare you cheapen their sacrifice by calling them, mercenaries? I am glad, South Korea is our ally! My father was an officer in the ROKMC trained here in U.S. and I remember, how proud he was serving in ROKMC along side with U.S. troops.
