“If you don’t mind, could I eat while we talk?” Tiffany Hwang asks while she’s tears open the packing of her bread.

"괜찮으시다면 인터뷰 하는 동안 제가 뭘 좀 먹어도 될까요?" 티파니 황이 빵 봉지를 뜯으며 물었다.

“Of course you could.” I answered, while feeling secretly happy inside getting to see this with my own eyes. 

이런 장면을 직접 보게 될 줄이야 내심 너무 좋아하며 "아 물론 이죠". 라고 대답했다.

This person who always has to portray a perfect look in front of the camera, whereby dieting in order to maintain her exquisite S line is also considered her job, and being someone who is placed up on a pedestal by tens of millions of fans as an idol, star, princess, and goddess, is actually just like us, eating bread, and even spreading jam on it. 항상 카메라 앞에서 완벽한 모습을 보여주는 사람이, 항상 S line을 유지해야 하는 직업을 가진 그녀가, 그리고 수천 수만 명의 팬들의 우상, 스타, 여신 이라고 불리 우는 그녀가 내 앞에서 빵에 쨈을 발라 먹고 있다니.

Looking at a celebrity eating mini croissants, why is it made into such a big deal?

연예인이 미니 크로상을 먹는 걸 보고 있는 게 뭐가 그리 대단한 일인가?

Because, I have heard far too many examples of Korean agencies being stringently strict and demanding of their artistes, and I have also seen Tiffany’s pre-debut photo, and read the article of her actively losing weight. An angel’s face with a devil’s* body, requires a very strong will and determination, and endless hard work, before it can be achieved. *similar to a ‘killer’ body

왜냐하면 나는 많은 소속들이 소속 아티스트들에게 몸매를 유지하기 위해 식단 관리를 철저히 해왔단 말을 너무 많이 들어왔고, 어떻게 완벽한 몸매* 관리를 해왔는지 티파니의 데뷔 전 사진이나 기사들도 읽었었기 때문이다.

When interviewing SNSD in the past, the eight girls (they became an eight member group following Jessica Jung’s departure in 2014) would always be wearing the most beautiful and most figure appealing clothes, presenting the most perfect and radiant smiles. As though real life barbies, they are almost unrealistically beautiful. With Tiffany who is currently eating a bread, a stark contrast is displayed. Her pair of large eyes forming into crescents, revealing her sweet smile. “Oh! I love jam so much, haha.”

암튼 먹는 얘기는 그만하고 본론으로 들어가서! (기자가 파니 먹방에 매료되어 반 이상을 먹는 얘기만...)

A Smile Hiding Unyielding Strength(미소 속에 가려진 강한 마인드)

SNSD which Tiffany is from, also known as the Nation’s Girl Group of Korea, having eight albums under their name, with near a hundred concerts, is a top name.

티파니가 소속된 그룹은 소녀시대, 그들의 이름으로 8장의 앨범을 출시하고, 100회 이상의 공연을 한 원톱 대한민국의 국민 걸그룹 이다.

 Her own popularity is also bursting, with over 3.4 million followers on her Instagram account. On the day of the photoshoot, a photo from behind the scenes which she had uploaded, within a short period of 15 minutes had already attracted over 20 thousand likes.

그리고 인스타그램 3.4백만의 followers를 가지고 있으며, 그녀가 촬영 하는 날 올린 비하인드 컷 한장이 불과 15분 안에 2000개의 좋아요를 받을 만큼 그녀의 인기 조차 가히 폭발적이다.

10 years since debut, her biggest dream at the moment, is but an album – without the label of SNSD, but a solo album with only Tiffany’s name.

10년전 데뷔 전부터 그녀의 꿈은 그녀 자신만의 이름을 건 솔로 앨범을 내는 것이 었다.

“Originally I had wished to release it last year end, but decided to delay it till this year. Since the company had allowed me to reveal it, I am bringing up (the topic of) the album myself. (Before she had the chance to take a breath, she was already busy appeasing her staff who were listening in beside her)

"원래 저는 솔로 앨범을 작년 말에 낼 계획 이었어요. 근데 올해로 연기 했어요. 회사가 이 내용을 말해도 된다고 허락해서 이 화제를 이야기 하게 되었어요.

The company believes that I am already well prepared, and ready to go. 

회사는 제 앨범이 잘 준비 되어서 이제 출시 해도 될 것 같다고 했지만

But I disagree. I feel that it isn’t perfect enough. There were some parts which did not seem in place, so I hesitated: "Should I proceed according to the original plan, or persist in my beliefs and thoughts, and continue to grind it till perfection?”

제가 동의하지 않았어요. 아직 완벽하지 안다고 판단 되었거든요. 제 생각엔 아직 완전하지 못한 부분이 있다고 생각해요, 그래서 망설였죠 "그냥 원래 계획 대로 추진 할까 아니면 내 생각과 신념 대로 완벽을 위해 더 매진할까"

Before the interview, I was informed that the plans for her album had changed, so I wasn’t allowed to ask questions regarding the album. On this rare occasion that the person in question brings up the topic herself, I probed further.

이 인터뷰 하기 전에 나는 그녀의 솔로 앨범 기획에 변화가 있다는 사실을 전해 들었다. 그래서 앨범에 관한 질문은 안 하기로 했었다. 근데 인터뷰 도중 이 소재가 나와 더 캐어 보기로했다.
